Marketing research should include gathering data on demographics (e.g., age range), market size or potential market size for a product or service, key competitors within the industry as well as those outside it (by assessing their strengths/weaknesses) , as well as finding out about consumer behavior such as buying patterns and preferences by conducting focus groups with current customers while shadowing people at stores like Walmart . Marketers typically do some form of primary research before launching a campaign or product, but sometimes you can find out everything you need to know based on secondary research.

Also, it is important to keep in mind that different types of people are drawn to various channels, so it’s also helpful for marketers to know where their target audience spends most of their time online. For example, millennials can be found on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter while baby boomers might rely more heavily on search engines when shopping around for a product or service.

Finally, it is important to understand that your marketing research may reveal some things you might not want to know, such as how much of a market share the competition has in certain areas. However, once this information is gained and analyzed marketers can use it to develop an effective campaign or product launch by knowing where their competitors are weak so they can fill those holes and what channels will work best for reaching their audience.
